Name: Ozod Ermatov
Hometown: Panjakent, Tajikistan
I am from a beautiful country in Central Asia — Tajikistan. Currently, I am an exchange student in Lakeport, California, USA. I have a small family back home — a sweet mother and smart brother.
Visiting the USA was always my dream. I feel so blessed to be spending one year sharing my culture and traditional customs with my new community. I have been the happiest exchange student living with my wonderful American host family.
Achievements: (1) Participating in the “English Access Microscholarship Program” supported by the US Embassy, a two-year English language program. (2) Being selected as a finalist for the ‘Camp Future Stars” Bursa-Turkey. This camp also was supported by the US Embassy. We met students from seven countries, learning about the culture, tradition the economy and the social issues of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Turkey, Uzbekistan and the USA. (3) Competing in the “Second English Debate Tournament” in Garm-Tajikistan. It was supported by the US Embassy as well. I applied and had an interview. But this was really hard to get in because they had over 1000 applicants and only 32 were chosen. We spent one week debating social and economic issues in the world. (4) Being named a Presidential Scholarship Winner. 1.9 million students apply, and only 400 are selected. (5) Participating in the “Better Understanding for a Better World” conference. There were over 500 applicants all over the world. I won a scholarship, and spent almost a week in Washington DC. We discussed a lot of issues that world facing today and tried to solve them.
Sports are my life! I love soccer, and was captain of my high school team for four years. I also enjoy volleyball, swimming, basketball and wrestling, and have won many medals .
